you can be charged as a adult in a crime. You can be charged as a pedophile if you're caught doing the sex thing with even a 17 year old girl. you can get drafted if there were one.Any contract you sign is legal and binding. You don't have to ask your parents permission any more.
Sorry for the bad news , but I told my son the same thing last year when he turned 18

18 is barely even begun. Your life is only just beginning, you have not even reached the peak of adulthood and it is certainly not down hill from there. Believe it or not, 30 years old is actually supposedly a person's prime, but I would say around mid twenties up to 30.
So you're still very much an adolescent and I dont seriously believe that a person reaches adult physical maturity until after 20 or so. Mentally? that's another story. That takes FAR LONGER. Believe me, i was still acting like 18 at age 25, though bodily I had reached my full height and maturity, mentally forget it.
But basically 20s up to 30 is probably the peak time of anybody's young adulthood. You reach your full potential in youth and growth, full height, but the ageing process itself has not begun to really show it's marks...maybe some do if they have had hard lives or live roughtly, but most are in their prime till around 30 or so.

You can be charged as an adult for crimes; must register for the selective service (draft) if in the US--just in case Bush invades some more countries. You can also register to vote. Can't drink though, which is silly. When I was 18, we could buy beer but not hard liquor or wine.
In some states you can also gamble. Depends on the state, though.

I can tell you that you will be 18 only one time in your life. I can tell you that what you do now, will affect your life. Don't use drugs, Don't smoke, if you do quit. Take good care of your body, it is the only one you have... be good to yourself and to others and don't ever, ever, ever worry about anything. Life is short, and it will.. now that you are 18, going to pass by much quicker....and before you know it, you will be 21, then 25, then 30, then 40 and you will say to yourself...God, I wish I took better care of myself.....

The great thing is you get to sleep with people over the age of 18, the sucky thing is that you have to become a responsible person for all of your own actions.

You can buy cigarettes and porn. You can go to strip clubs and casinos. You can go to college if you want. No more high school girls. Time to step up your game.
To be fair 16 and 17 year olds can be tried as adults depending on the crime.

the weather doesn't change with your age
but you can expect....more responsibilty, signing up for selective service (draft), a little more freedom, and possibly being told to get a job and get out?
