Do you find it harder to get along with them as they age or can you find that place, emotionally, where you can let it roll off your back?

I get along better with both my parents than I ever have.
They live 2500 miles from me.
We all use the phone and stay happy with each other.
Good luck.

I get along fine with them; we were always able to talk about anything, and I still believe, my Dad is the best in the world...I have to admit, my parents live across the ocean, and I usually see them only once or twice a year for a couple of weeks...we do talk on the phone weekly, though, and my brother also gets on with them very well...they only live a couple of blocks away from each other.

Mom died a few years ago. We got along well enough although I was glad I wasn't living with her. Loved her but some subjects drove me nuts. Now I have finally gotten to know my Dad. He can get a word in edge-wise and I'm hearing all sorts of funny stuff. I help him with shopping, bills and recently dealing with a hospital stay. I live a state away so its tricky, but I'm glad to do it. Besides, when I was a kid I threw up all over him. Figure I owe him one. LOL

My mother and I get along well now that we're older. I understand her better & enjoy her company. We didn't get along at all when I was growing up. We don't hold grudges; I just enjoy the present & look forward to the future with her. The past is over & done with & better left where it belongs.

After age 40, the conflicts with my parents dispersed like clouds. Old grievances don't matter. I am who I am and I'm content with that person. Nothing they did wrong in parenting me is an insurmountable obstacle.

We still disagree, but there isn't that acrimony as there was in the past.

I think as my parents age, I expect it to get more difficult to reason with them over things. They have been divorced for more than 25 years, so I will deal with each separately, however, I find I have more patience than I used to.

It's easier for me now to get along with my mother than it used to be. We both mellowed some.
