Here are two good free antivirus programs. The link below is for Active Virus Sheild, powered by kerparsky Labs. Russia. Rated # 1 in the world for virus detection. Free from AOL. Uses very little resources and you will get auto updates.

Myself I prefer the free 7.5 antivirus for home personal use by Grisoft. http://www.grisoft.com Download their free home personal use antivirus. You will also get auto updates.

Both have a background scanner that works in real time. I found that the AVG free uses the least amount of resources while the background scanner is running.

Good luck,

I just installed the AVG anti-virus, and it works excellent. I had the free version, but that does expire, so I paid for the new element 7.5, and it has picked up problems on my notebook.Be careful with some of these companys, because they advertise free downloads, then ask you to sign up, with them, and if you are not protected, they download into your computer, adware, malaware, etc. etc. viruses. LOOK OUT FOR REGISTRY CLEANER, because they advertise free downloads, but they will mess with your computer unless you pay them. Go AVG-antivirus. good luck............

The only "very good" antivirus software is to dump that Virus magnet Windows software and get a good open source software, such as Kubuntu. The reason is that the very best antivirus software is only effective at preventing about 99% of virii. Since there are over 114,000 virii that infect Windows, even that 1% is still over 1000 virii that your computer is unprotected against. So, dump Windows and get Kubuntu at www.kubuntu.org

AVG and Avast are both totally worthless. JUNK. I recommend active virus shield. It is by far the best free antivirus you can get.

Use AVG (http://free.grisoft.com/) or Avast Home Edition (http://www.avast.com/). I prefer Avast Home Edition (I am using it.)
