How do I become a HVAC PE?

I live in Florida. I passed the PE exam but know very little of HVAC? How do I get started in this field? Do I need to get on an internship to get my years of experience? How do I get picked if I don't have experience?

The job of HVAC is a mechanical engineer design for HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, fire protection and utility distribution. Well, if you sat for the PE exam, you've completed 4 to 6 years of education and passed the engineering training exam. That means you are highly desireable in the HVAC world right now. There is a huge shortage of engineers, both highly experienced and entry-level. IOW, companies are willing to train you when they hire you. Since the pool is so empty, firms are looking for new engineers to mentor into positions of greater responsibility. I work for a design/build mechanical contractor in Seattle and we're looking for entry level HVAC Design Engineers. I imagine the hiring shortage is the same in Florida.
