Why does the President pay money to kill people in other countries, but doesn't pay money to feed people who are hungry when we have people who need food in our own country and in other countries.

For the record I am NOT on public assistance. Actually, I work for the Government during normal business hours, and I also run a nonprofit org. for single parents and underpriviledge youth. It never cease to amaze me when I see ignorance still exist in the eyes of so many in a country that calls itself the land of the free and the home of the brave. Ignorance is a sign of weakness and some of the answers on this question was just that. meanwhile, I myself still cannot seem to fathom why when our own country in is trillions of dollars worth of debt, we continue to fight sensless wars, sending our own troops off to be killed, creating an even bigger budget deficit (Our government cannot control its own spending and budgeting), when we have so many needs of our own in our own country. *Poor wasn't speaking of people who are taking advantage of the system, but poor as in elderly, widows, homeless, mentally ill; people who really cannot take care of themselves. *New King James (Jer. 22:3)

I have heard this question so many times in different contexts. Why do we send foreign aid and not send domestic aid? Why fight a war and not feed our own? The answer is that if you work, you don't need the government to feed you. If you cant work, you WILL receive assistance if you ask for it. There are no starving masses here, unless you count the lazy shiftless people who cant go out and get a decent job. I lived on minimum wage for 3 years, still managed to pay a weekly rate on a motel room, and still had money for gasoline and food. You cant tell me that you will starve even if you are working. People who had food stamps (and I didnt because I refused to apply and live on the system) would eat way better meals that people who made 10 times as much money as I did.

Honestly, it's about the republican mind set and the money. Business rules. If you don't make money for the government, you won't get much help in the republican policies.
War is a great money maker. All those politicians own stock in the defense industry...they are making a killing.
Plus there is the oil in the middle east. You don't see the president jumping into the poor sections of Africa, do you?
The poor people in our money don't give campaign contributions, so they are stuck with whatever scraps are thrown their way.
Although the Dems are probably not that much better. Theoretically they are supposed to care more for the disadvantaged, but money still rules in the end.

Don't pay attention to "confused". Its name is self explanatory. No where in your question, can someone ASSume that your daughter was asking for a handout in any way shape or form. The comments were totally uncalled for.
In any event, this twit we are stuck with until 1/19/09, does not know what it is like to need for anything since he was born with a silver spoon up his you know what.
Selfish is as selfish does.
The only people he cares about are his rich cronies and how much more money they can make at the expense of others.
Minimum wage can hardly cover bills in this country. Someone here commented on the fact that he lived on the minimum wage for 3 years. It has to have been some time ago, Gas prices are up, food prices are up, electricity is up. Essentially all the necessities just to survive are going up. Affordable housing is becoming increasingly non-existent. Some of the nasty comments come from people who know no better but I wonder, if they get downsized, have no health care and hit a medical crisis, just how quickly they will turn around and squawk.

So that the other country wont get as powerful as the country who hired assassin to killed their officials. It just lead to the fact that once a person is given a great power such as the President, they'll want to repress other country to show that they have the power. But of course, if a President cannot keep his country together and kept all people working and fed then that is not a very good President to his citizens

The politicians have the same problem in all wide world... How get necessary money to win expensive "democratic" elections?
In some countries you could just give some money to poor people "eat' or "live"... like in Brazil or Venezuela... buying votes for low prices... in USA, I imagine that votes could be more expensive...perhaps the politicians needs to make wars to "conquest" oil-explorations-rights or new marquets to support future runs... who knows the cost of votes and human lives in others countries? Whats the value of a human life in your country?

Your daughter needs to realize that the world is MUCH more complex than she can even begin to imagine. It's pitiful that she doesn't realize that there ARE assistance programs in this country for those in need. Whenever there is a crisis in this world who do the people of the world look to for help? The USA. Overall, no other country spends more to assist other countries than the US. It's tragic and disgusting that you, a parent won't (or can't) even begin to explain SOME of these things to your daughter, but instead come to a public forum like this one for "answers". I'd be ashamed and embarrassed.
Unbelievable!

Well, the President is only an actor playing as President, so he/she can't really be fully blamed for any government decision, since he/she is only following orders.
As for soldiers.
It should be noted that soldiers need resources to strive/struggle for their countries, and their countries need to provide resources for them.
Whether they are ordered with the correct orders to strengthen their countries or not, it's another question.
As for hungry people.
Well, hungry people are hungry because they are in need of something, but that doesn't mean that they need food in a hurry.
For example, obese people are continously hungry, they are in need of something in a hurry, but it's probably not food.
But nevertheless, it's correct that people need to be supplied with resources to strengthen their countries.
As for people in other countries.
Countries shouldn't be involved with other countries unless the other countries can strengthen the countries.
A should help B if B can help A in return.

Well you should congratulate your daughter on empathy towards other.
But, you should help her learn to do better research online.
Otherwise you would know, the the government does spend billions feeding people in America.
Food Stamp funding has increased from 17.5 billion in 2001 to 37.5 billion in 2006, that's a 114% increase !!!
WIC ( supplemental nutrition funding for women and infants) funding has increased from 4.3 billion in 2001 to 5.46 billion in 2006, a 27% increase !!
National School Lunch funding has increased from 9.8 billion in 2002 to 12.7 billion in 2006, a 29% increase !!!
So you can tell her that President Bush shares her feelings on feeding the poor and as his record shows, is doing all he can.!!!!!!!

Your daughter is wrong. Not only do people not starve in America, a lot of them get free money from the govt for food in the form of food stamps. Not only that but 10 percent of Mexico is living here and they also get free food from the govt. And I pay those bills with my taxes. Your 17 year old daughter probably has very bad teachers feeding her hogwash.

Ask the poor souls in New Orleans. Mostly black, mostly ignored. Most have not nor will not come back - a disgrace. the enemy is Geo. W. Bush, not the people he coerced the Congress into allowing him to attack - period.
