If you can travel near enough to the speed of light for time dilation to be significant, you will age more slowly. If you return to earth after years of high-speed ship time earth will be many years older than you, so you have essentially traveled into the future.

It doesn't work the other way, however. Someone will have to figure out how to travel in a really fast *negative* velocity for that to happen. Good luck with that.

Because people would try to change the past and it would have an impact on the future? But wait, if I went to the future and found out something once I came back to the past or my present wouldn't I be able to change it? Hmmmmm I don't know.
