Dreams do come true. -- Not all the time but sometime a warning to the problem, that arises in the future. I quote an incident:

When I was young, I had never the chance to maintain a relation with my grandma. She was old and ailing. Despite the grievous of health, she was adamant to live on against odds of predictions that this summer was last for her . Indeed she made it with more years to come and healthy as ever. However, she broke a few bones and my dad was unhappy that ended her in a home.

Years went by and out of the blue I had this feeling that something was amiss.-- A hunch was in me to pay her a visit, which my dad was unable to accede out of sheer excuse of commitments. The following night I dreamt of her death. I was amazed, the scenario between grandma and I was never before so loving and real. I seemed to grasp what was in her mind, the pain, the reluctance to leave, and strong attachment for the family.

I told my dad in the morning. The reply was---you had a heavy meal in the night. The late afternoon came the news that my grandma had passed away. --- This was real.

It depends on the dream. Some can in fact come true while others are way too far out there to happen. Alot of dreams and nightmares are either your mind venting the day in a weird way, or it could be a subconscious message. Sounds silly but it is true. Most dreams though are just ur imagination running wild....

Dreams to me are like tabloids created by our minds about our lives. There is some truth but most is stretched. Nightmares seem to be be rooted in people's anxiety and fears. I don't think dreams and nightmares come true as far as their context. Yet I do believe that there are subliminal messages and truths found in them. I guess that's why some people say write them down. And If you're familiar with Freud, he would say you're thinking about sex again while sleep. Furthermore I think people should pay some attention to there dreams and nightmares because they give some hints about our realities.

Some things that we dream do actually happen from time to time. It might just be coincidence!
It may be that since we all supposedly dream every night that some of the things that we dream do actually occur. Kind of a law of averages type of thing.
Just an idea.
No data to back it up.

they always say realize your own dreams, make an effort and be a winner. and who are the losers? those that didn't get to realize their ambitions, and maybe i am one among them. I have been there and done that, i see life now the way i have seen It before. And I say, that is not true. Some people are not always lucky enough to get by impending hindrance to success. Though they are responsible for their actions, they may have put themselves in second priority for the sake of others, like a mother to her child.

If the word dream somehow made an impression on my mind, I would understand it as a suggestion to use my imagination to visualize more the things I desire as a done deal.

Depends how ambitious you are. If you're speaking in the cliched sense, then no, dreams never come true unless you've got the luck of a god. Dreams are worked for and earned and by then arent dreams anymore, they're rewards.

Yes, in fact, today I flew out my window after dreaming that last night. How did you know? Are you in my head?

I'm hoping that my nightmare of being chased by a 7 foot tall salamander will be negated by my new flying ability.

Not in the sense that you are implicating... but I think that, because dreams are symbols from the subconcious which represent real life events. the actual events may be similar enough that it seems like the dream "became" reality
