Is doing this instead of a day job something that people would value as "respectable"? Does being a reseller that produces nothing make you less important than someone who is a craftsman, builder, or producer? If you were interviewing someone for a job and they listed eBay as their sole experience, what would you think?

As long as you are respectable in your dealings then I would consider this a respectable job. Not all can build, some have to sell what is built. If you are better at selling than building, then eBay may be for you. Having eBay as your sole experience may or may not be benficial to you, it depends on the job you are applying for. A successful eBay business is 'work' just like any other job. You have repsonsibilities, you deal with people, you handle money, you may have stock and inventory, you make decisions that affect you and others.

I would think that you are an entrepreneur. Most people go for the 9 to 5 and don't have what it takes to go out on their own and run their own ship. They need the supervision to get it done. You have the control to work when it needs to be done and that you can do it without supervision. Selling on ebay is like running your own company and shows that you have enough faith in yourself to make it on your own. As an ebay buyer, I well know that one man's junk is another's treasure. I volunteer for an animal rights group and we make pretty good $ doing rummage sales.

getting and maintaining any sort of job in this day and age is considered respectable in my book!

you don't list ebay as a source per say ...simply say that you are self employed and make up a name for your business.....you have experience in everything pertaining to the internet and computers and selling/buying if you have paypal then you know about credit etc.... you see what i am getting at?

(if you need help in putting together a resume without putting down "ebay" you can do this..) i call it bull shitting but your not technically lying because you truly have the experience!

I would think they were a smart entrepreneur, who can use internet technology and today's electronic marketplace to make a living.

I would think that this person is not afraid to take a risk to try something new and different.

I would think this person can think outside the box and is not afraid to fail, in order to succeed.

I would think this person is responsible enough to take care of him/herself and not rely on an employer to look out for his/her best interests.

I would think this person is creative and confident and able to reinvent him/herself as often as needed to compete in today's marketplace.

I'd hire this person!

Heck ya, the money you earn from that is just as green as a builder would make.

think about it is the money you are making taxed does it go to your retirement does it go to your future at all? If I were interviewing someone I would have to wonder what their future goals would be. Are they in it for the long haul or just the dough?

eBay uses its sellers as hoars. Ask anyone who knows.
