I'm a school administrator and a former PE teacher, so I think I can answer this one. First, you will be taking LOTS of science courses. Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology, etc. At the university I went to, we were 9 units away from a pre med degree. Then, depending on the state, you will have to take teacher credentialling courses. In California, that is another 1-2 years including your student teaching. And yes CPR is one thing ALL teachers are trained in here in my district.

It is NOT just going out and throwing the ball around for a few hours and then go take a shower. As a matter of fact, that is just a small part of the total curriculum.

A four-year college degree in physical education, and then you must pass state certification requirements (a few large exams). Learning CPR will be the easiest thing you will need to learn to do.

Good Luck....
