I'm usually OK in French, but I don't get this. Thanks.

unless, I'm mistaken, the imperative of dance is "danse" with a accent grave over the e.

Imperative are commands. You're ordering them to (in this case) dance

An imperative form is a command. Like in English, we say "Eat!" to command someone to eat.

I don't know much French, but you'd conjugate the verb danser - to dance as "Danse!" to tell someone to go dance. That's for the tu form, anyway.

I'd probably learn more French if it didn't have such senseless pronunciation rules, unlike Italian and Spanish.
