Eyeliner shapes and defines your eyes. Choose the color that is right for your eye color. If you have light colored eyes, choose a brown, navy or charcoal. Brown and plum work well for brown eyes. The liner should also be a complement to your eye shadow color.

Take the following steps to apply eyeliner:
• Eye liners come in the form of cake, liquid, and pencil. You can also use eye shadows for lining. If using a pencil eye liner, be sure it is sharp.
• Hold your head back slightly and open your eyes to a half open status.
• Draw a line across the upper lid, just above the lashes. Start from the inside corner moving to the outside corner of your eye.
• If using a brush or eye pencil, smudge the liner with the brush or cotton swab to soften the look.
• To line the lower lid, start at the outside edge and draw a line to the outer two-thirds of the lid. Do not put the color on the actual inside of the eye lid.

Liquid eye liner gives the most intense and precise line that perfectly defines the eyes and stays sharp over time. It is usually available in dark matte or iridescent shades and come in small bottle with a brush or felt applicator. It is difficult to apply and requires a steady hand. It is recommended for top eye lid only, as not only does it have a tendency to irritate the eye if incorrectly applied, it also gives a very harsh line.
Harder powder-based eye pencil draws a clean and precise line and is easy to apply. It is available in dark matte shades.
Softer wax-based eye pencils contain waxes that ease application. They are good for smudging and come in a variety of colours. Bright blue, green, aqua, violet, or bronze liners are appropriate when a bright colour should be quickly and precisely applied in a line. Light beige or white liners are used to highlight eye lids and corners. This type of eye liner may come in a pencil, a cone or a compact with a brush applicator.
Kohl eyeliner has the softest powder texture and is available in dark matte shades. Kohl is used to softly define the eye contour with a dark (usually black) colour. This product may come in several forms: pencil, pressed powder, or loose powder. It is usually applied to the inner rim of the eye (the pink area behind the eyelashes) unlike other eyeliners as it does not irritate the sensitive tissue in that area.

It really just depends on what kind you're using (liquid, a pencil, etc.) For a pencil, you close your eye, pull it taut, and make short strokes across the top and bottom of your eyes. Don't put the liner in the inner rim of your eye, though, because it can cause infection. Personally, I don't use liquid eyeliner because it's more difficult to apply and takes an experienced and steady hand.

Eyeliner is put on the line of your eyelashes or if you pull the bottom of yoru eye out the line there is a line if you place in there, my suggestion (the way i learnt) is just try differant ways it can go on top or bottom try pressing hard or soft to make think or think lines using your thumb to make smudge etc, get the opinions of family and friends too cause you might think you look good when reallyyou might not, its all up to practise, GOOD LUCK!!

Close the Eye and run your pencil or liquid eyeliner above the eyelashes and below the bottom lashes.
