Now I have a muscle pain running from my knee down through the calf, more on the right side. If I see a doctor about this is there anything they can do besides tell me to take it easy?

Definitely see a doctor.
If you tore tendons in your knee you'll need more help than just taking it easy.

Depends on the type of injury you have. If it is just a sprain, strain, etc. they will tell you to take it easy. However, if it is something more serious then it needs to be taken care of. I can't really diagnose you, because I don't see your leg and I can't do stress tests. But if it really hurts (especially if you are not sure if it is muscle pain, tendon pain, or something else) or if you do take it easy for a couple of days and the condition doesn't improve, then you should see a doctor.

If you were going to sue somebody, the trip to the doctor would be extremely important.
How long have you had this pain. I'm thinking knee cap chip or bursis pressure, maybe some artery or vein blockage. I don't like you to have this extreme lengthy pain. You might have some treatment like warmth you could do for therapy.. He can evaluate your walk and see if he wants to limit you for a while. It would be a good thing to take that doctor visit. If you are working or going to school you'll want a doctors limitation note before they demand too much of your injured leg.

Probably the most important thing your doctor can do is get you in to see a physical therapist. The PT can assess what is going on in the leg biomechanically, and make a plan to address the problems.

Go to APTA.org, click on "find a PT" and search your home area.

Good luck!
