Okay, I just came up with a movie character whom I need help with his history:
He's a werewolf hunter that lives near the woods, and he doesn't know anyone. He just lives on his own means, but this is irrelevant. Now, there needs to be a reason for him to be despising and hunting werewolves (a reason for him to want to get revenge), but I don't know any good reasons without being too predictable or "Mary Sue-ish".
His parent(s) being killed by werewolves is too predictable, as is one of his parent(s) being a werewolf his/herself.

Any ideas?

OK. Here it is. He had a wife and daughter. His wife was outside getting water or something and was bitten by a werewolf and he had to kill her. Then his daughter was with the mother and the werewolves took her. He is hunting them to find her hoping the she has not been turned into a werewolf and if she has been kill her and set her soul free so she can finally rest and get the closure that his restless conscience needs.

Maybe he could do it for money (from the villagers). Or you could leave his past a mystery, give no apparent reason and let others who he comes into contact with speculate and spread various rumors about his actions without ever confirming.
