The following is the chronological order in which the films were made:

"Hannibal" (2001)

"Red Dragon" (2002)
(A remake of the 1986 film "Manhunter")

"Hannibal Rising" (2007)

They were made in the following order:
There was first Manhunter, where Hannibal was not played by Hopkins, then there was Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, and Red Dragon (a remake of Manhunter). Currently, there is also Hannibal Rising, a prequel that shows how Hannibal came to be. This also does not feature Anthony Hopkins, since the character is much younger in this movie.

The story is in the following order:
Hannibal Rising
Manhunter/Red Dragon
Silence of the Lambs
Hannibal

I agree with the order starting with Hannibal Rising, however I think that although Manhunter was released before Red Dragon, if you follow the story line, Red Dragon would be first and Manhunter takes place after Hannibal has been captured

They bypass pink Dragon, Silence of the Lambs and then Hannibal. pink Dragon is desperate presently until now Silence of the Lambs, and Hannibal takes places 10 years following the tip of Silence of the Lambs.

Well, the very first movie was called "Manhunter", but not what I would consider of the "Anthony Hopkins" type.
Next came "Silence of the Lambs", "Hannibal", "Red Dragon", then "Hannibal Rising".

In chronology, I believe it was:
Hannibal Rising
Manhunter
Red Dragon
Silence of the Lambs
Hannibal

The order they came out was Silence of the lambs, Red Dragon, and then Hannibal....The proper order I believe was Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs and then Hannibal. I think that's the way it was anyways.

In the original "Manhunt"(1986), "Red Dragon" was mentioned in the past tense, as though referring to an earlier movie or book. So, here I find myself searching for that reference. Maybe a "Hole" the director put in so to possibly do another movie later such as was done in the Star Wars series.
