Here are some quotes from Scout and Jem, the tomboy sister and her brother.
"What's rape?" (sorry i dont know the page number)
this is a good quote for innocence because scout has never heard this tearm before and so she asks Atticus (father) what it means after she hears a tall skinny man talking about it. This also shows that Tom Robinson, not Boo Radly is the Mockingbird in the story because he is killed for a crime he didn't commit, ( really it was just because he was black and he had an affair with Mayella Ewell who was the daughter of a racist lower class father who beat Mayella for being with Tom and then blamed it on Tom by saying that he raped her) This all ties together because Scout is also an innocent/ ignorant child who doesnt understand what is going on. Also because she asks her father Atticus who is the one person in the entire town who will say that a black man is innocent. this shows the irony of the innocece and also ingnorance of Scout and the entire town of maycomb.
p.106 "My sister ain't dirty..."
Also a good quote showing the innocence of childhood. Jem is defending his sister Scout from a crankey old lady Miss Dubose. Every time they walk past her house she says cruel things to Scout because she acts so much like a boy. Miss Dubose tells her that she sould wear dresses and that shes a dirty girl. This makes Jem really ticked off so he sticks up for his sister and tells Miss Dubose whats right. However, when Miss dubose dies, Jem finds out that she is addicted to Morphine, an addictive pain killer. So who really was the innocent? i'll let you decide.

"I think I'll be a clown when I get grown," said Dill. "Yes, sir, a clown.... There ain't one thing in this world I can do about folks except laugh, so I'm gonna join the circus and laugh my head off." "You got it backwards, Dill," said Jem. "Clowns are sad, it's folks that laugh at them." "Well, I'm gonna be a new kind of clown. I'm gonna stand in the middle of the ring and laugh at the folks." (chapter 22)

Scout: "I think there's just one kind of folks. Folks." (Chapter 23)

Scout - "Neighbors bring food with death and flowers with sickness and little things in between. Boo was our neighbor. He gave us two soap dolls, a broken watch and chain, a pair of good-luck pennies, and our lives. But neighbors give in return. We never put back into the tree what we took out of it: we had given him nothing, and it made me sad."

Try looking for things about Boo Radley for innocence toward the end of the book. I'm not going to do your homework for you, but Boo Radley is the embodiment of innocence. I'm sorry you're only reading this wonderful book because you have to. Read it again sometime for enjoyment.
