what is the positive value of k to make the two equations parallel:

kx+2y=8
18x+8y=12

Put both into slope-intercept form

first equation: y = -kx/2 +4
second equation: y = 9/4x + 3/2

if they're parallel, the slopes have to be the same:

-k/2 and 9/4

so k has to be 4.5
