Mies van der Rohe was a major architect from Germany who was afraid of what Hitler might try so he relocated to Chicago. He was instrumental in developing the Bauhaus school of design and minimalist architectural trends.

If you visit Chicago you'll see several examples of his work from Lakepoint Tower next to Navy Pier and many of the buildings around the Illinois Institute of Technology. He designed the Richard J Daley Center and was so anal about all of the details of the building that he even lined up the lines in the sidewalk outside the building with the arches of the Cook County Building.

Mies' favorite saying was "God is in the details."

At IIT he is a god.

Led the Bauhaus movement of the 20's and 30's, in Germany and later in the USA. His byword, "Less is more" was indicative of the drift of his life's work.
