Can you please give me the advantages and disadvantages of using a rivet and why? Also, if you were to choose any other method, what would you choose? Person that gets the best answer here will also get a best answer from me when I ask a question in the polls from music & entertainment question.

advantage = rivots do not unscrew or loosen, and are applied very fast when the holes are predrilled. That's why rivots are used ..... a machine can punch a rviot in ...fast than it would take to put a nut and bolt on .... or a screw.
disadvantage = when you want to dismantle or take apart a rivoted piece, you normally have to drill it out and be careful you don't widen the hole or mar the surface of the item ....
