I would probably do a mini lesson on self-esteem.

Make up some popsicle sticks (or something similar) with things that make it easier to find success in high school--good study habits, time organization, willingness to try new things. Have those present at the interview draw a stick and explain why that would be important to their success. Ask them if they could achieve that goal without believing in themselves.

Provide a definition of self esteem. Ask for ways to enhance self-esteem. End by saying that self-esteem isn't really learned, it is practiced.

Provide a handout with the concepts on each popsicle stick listed. Have your audience rank them in terms of personal importance. Tell them to practice one per week for their top five listings and to make a journal of their efforts.

By consciously practicing and recording results, they are on their way to a brighter future.

How about teaching them to say hello in several languages? Begin with Waz up? Then go to "Hola," Buon Giorno in Italian, Bon jour in French, Wha Gwann? in Jamaican patois, etc. explaining to them that we live in a diverse, mulit-cultural society and that our world today has grown smaller. I don't guess they'd all sing We Are the World, but it might be fun to hear several try the greetings. Thank them for their attention, and end your five minutes with, "Ciao! Gracias! Gracie Mille! Thanks man, it's been real!" Go get 'em!!
