panic!: all of the work and other document files i have saved on my usb drive alone have become corrupted. the file names have changed to weird characters and i can no longer open them in Word. i have tried to research the problem but not come up with a solution. one basic suggestion i found was to run chkdsk but it did not run...and i read that this could be because the drive has to be locked but don't know how to do that. another suggestion is to run a mild format which does not delete the files but can restore them but i can't figure out how to do that either. i am very stressed...i cannot afford to love these files. does anyone know of a way to restore the files so they can be accessed normally again? damned cheap chinese rubbish! lol. hopefully this can be solved and i doubt if i will use usb drives again...just store everything on a portable hard drive (i've ordered one already!). thank you...

thanks dude...there is no physical lock. it's just that when i lick on the error-checking programme a message pops up saying it need exclusive access to those files and i need to restart my machined and asks if i want to reschedule running it when i have restarted. but i click 'ok' and nothing happens. i'm unbelievably depressed! all the files are still there because all the file sizes are also listed. so i have not given up hope.

If the drive is locked, usually there is a physical thing you slide somewhere on the drive itself. It usually has a lock picture by it. If there is nothing like that, I don't think you have a good chance of recovering those files. Sorry.

this is likely repairable by ability of a smart electronics restoration individual on your community area. in spite of if, it is not truly low priced, my wager could be around £50gbp and probable greater reckoning on the wear. bd
