I know you can run a diesel car on used cooking oil, but what about a gasoline-powered car? If not, do you know why?

Thanks,

Yes, as long as you add 1L of rubbing alcohol for every 10L or so of french fry oil.

absolutely not!

gasoline engines use spark plugs and compress the air/fuel mixture anywhere from 8:1 to 12:1 (high performance engines are in the 12:1 area). Gasoline is highly volitile once compressed. Power is exerted when the spark plug ignites it.

Diesel engines have a much higher compression, around 16:1. Diesel fuel, though flammable, has to be compressed greater in order to burn efficiently.

Putting used cooking oil into your gasoline engine will clog your fuel filter, gum up you FUEL injectors, and foul out your spark plugs if you're lucky. If you're unlucky, it'll do much more damage to your vehicle.

Run gasoline in your car. Save your vegetable oil for your french fries.

No. oil needs much higher compression to burn cleanly. Gasoline engines commonly run about 8:1 to 9:1 compression. Diesel engines often run up to 33:1 - and they have to be strengthened to withstand the added strain. This is why diesel engines are so heavy - thicker metal.

NO NO NO and NO!!! Bad Owner! Bad owner!!!

Of course you can. Pour it in, run it until the smoke comes out of the exhause and your emission light is flashing... Then ask who fixes a gas powered engine after it has been fueled with french fry oil and and I'll give you an address to a really good mechanic who likes to swap engines, emission systems, and fuel systems.

Ok... now go get a treat.

No, only diesels that have been modified...you cannot pour straight french fry oil into an unconverted diesel engine...

You can get a conversion kit though for a gasoline engine (I think) ...

Craigslist can convert any gas motor vehicle to a diesel motor vehicle. sell your motor vehicle, then purchase yet another :) you do no longer could desire to do something to a diesel motor vehicle to run biodiesel, it rather is merely yet another sort of diesel gasoline. different posters are perfect that biodiesel expenditures merely as much as diesel. No mark downs there. You do could desire to transform your motor vehicle to run vegetable oil at contemporary. Veggie oil expenditures close to as much as diesel additionally, so little or no mark downs there. in spite of the indisputable fact that eating places have a tendency to have numerous used fryer grease which would be had for much less costly or loose. in spite of the indisputable fact that it rather is nasty stuff. you would be able to desire to clear out it for debris (which might clog your injectors) -- and used grease commonly has problems with acidity and water content textile. you may forget approximately that and use it besides (at your peril). or you may neutralize the acid and separate the water, at which element you have achieved lots of the artwork in touch in making biodiesel, which you additionally can do. airborne dirt and airborne dirt and dust much less costly gasoline for a touch Mr. Wizard.
