What is the name of the elf leader guy who brings all the elves to Helms Deep,the one who's Aragorns friend?

In the second movie he leads a regiment of Elven archers from Lórien to the Battle of Helm's Deep, where he is eventually cut down. First he receives a blow to the arm, and is struck in the back by an Uruk's sword, and he dies in Aragorn's arms.
In the books, there were no Elves at Helm's Deep (aside from Legolas),

Haldir, who lived Lothlorien with Lady Galadriel...
However, in the books the elves did not assist at Helm's Deep nor at Minas Tirith, nor is Haldir a friend of Aragorn.

Haldir from Lothlorien. He and Aragorn had been very good friends.

Elrond sends them, but their commander, upon arrival, is Haldir, who lived Lothlorien with Lady Galadriel.
