i own a repair shop ,and it should idle at around 750-800 rpm,s on normal idle that's with the engine warm, and no air conditioning on or the heater, sometimes the heater recycles it ,so it will kick the air on ,but the computer compensates for this, and will keep the idle at a normal speed even if its put in gear it should only drop a small amount,if you have one that's idling below or above this ,there may be a problem with it,good luck,i hope this helps.

Most cars idle between 650 and 800 rpm - anything over 1000 means something's wrong.

Depends upon which engine you've got, plus accessories that are engine driven (P/S, P/B and A/C). Most engines are designed to idle between 800 to1400 RPM, but, again, that depends upon many external factors. If you have any doubt as to whether it is idling properly, check the owner's/operator's manual and/or bring it to a competent mechanic.

usually a warm idle will be in the 600-800 area. the person who said the idle was meant to be around 1400 is an idiot.
