I was cleaning out my drawer and I found a payroll check from when I worked for Gap 5 years ago. It's dated August 2002. Nowhere on the check does it have an expiration date. I am wondering if I can still cash this or do I have to call Gap and let them know I have it. Do they have to reissue a new one? Can I cash the one I have? I really need this money because I just lost my current job, and this long lost paycheck is like a godsend!

I seriously doubt they will re-issue you a check after five years for any number of reasons, the least of which is what it would cost them in time and labor to pull the old records, verify that the original check was still outstanding, and doing a reconcilation.

It expired in 90 days. Call them up, they will reissue you the check.
