I saw someone ask this question but it was closed, so I want to ask, is that fair? To go out on maternity leave, then leave the company before coming back?

No, I don't. It is cheating the company. If you have any sick days or personal days though, you earned them, use those to have payed leave. It isn't right to get payed leave for free and have no company loyalty. Sorry to get your hopes up for some free extra pay. Totally unethical.

Not quite a comics question but...

Yes, a lot of women say that they will or won't go back after the baby is born and end up changing their minds. Maternity leave in the US is typically filed the same way as any other long-term medical leave. A woman has to put in her time to be eligible and even then you only get about 2/3 of your normal paycheck and end up using personal sick/vacation time for the rest. If something were to happen and you needed to go back to work after having the baby, you could end up starting over in a job search and the company would have gone to the trouble of having to find and train a new employee to replace you.

I think it is...being a parent is the hardest job in the world...why shouldn't the woman get paid for it even if she's not going back to work. If it was a problem then they would penalize you for not going back to work once your leave was up.

Okay Mitchell how is this related to Comics & Animation?

No it is not ethically right to go on leave rather than resign.
