Some people can't pull off the dark lipstick; it just doesn't suit them. You don't have to wear dark/black lipstick to have a gothic look. Dramatic (but tasteful) eye makeup can look hundreds of times more gothic than someone wearing lipstick that looks horrible or ridiculous on them. In my opinion, the best looking goths are the classiest looking goths. If you're into the real gothic subculture (not the Mansonite idiocy), then you should know that it isn't all about the look anyway. It's about the music and the attitude.

personally i wouldnt go with the black lipstick. black clothes, jewellery and eyeliner all look great, but i dont really like the whole black lipstick look. It will hide your lips no matter what. I'm sorry to say. But it would be great if you could find a darkk color or even a black lipgloss. That way it will have a little bit of shine to it...it my not hide your lips as much either. but the only problem is that i'm not exactly sure if there is such thing as black lipgloss.
If there isnt....you can use black eye shadow then put clear gloss over it. yes, i know it sounds weird but i've done it before. It wont look as heavy. plus it stays on for quite a while.

GOOD LUCK!

As a retired "goth", I say no black lipstick at all. It rarely looks good on any real living person unless you've got very fair skin and are willing to constantly do the touch-ups.

But to answer your question, you can go outside of your lips a little bit using a eyeliner, tastefully of course. Or you could, and this seems like the best idea, apply your lipstick and then put a coat of ultra-shiny lipgloss over it. Just be careful not to lick it off or smear it or even touch it.

The best thing to do is: don't wear black lipstick! it's too dark & it looks depressing. You should try lip gloss! use light colors with shine. Go with the woman look, not the Mad Max beyond Thunderdome warrior look. Black Lipstick is for Halloween costumes.

line with black lip liner then put on the dark lipstick
its supports the lipstick and makes your lips look great

If you want to have bigger looking lips with dark lipstick.
Use a lip liner to outline your lips. Go around your lips.
Then fill it in with your lipstick. Then a little gloss
I think that tinted lip gloss may look better though.

Dont go with black. I have a friend that uses it and it always looks bad, like a crayon you colored on your lips. Go with a rich deep red or wine color, with a dark lipliner. Also consider gloss on top for some shine.

Line your lips first with dark liner (try raisin from MAC) and fill with lipstick...don't exagerate too far out of your natural lipline.

i'll have to say. you shouldn't wear black lipstick. some gothic looks dont need lipstick. if you're really into goth, then, i'll have to recomend eyeliner or black/silver eyeshadow. leave out the lipstick.
