Light eclosure has glass on sides, but open on bottom (so it is not fully enlosed) and the lightbulb screws from bottom. I am curious what will save energy and or/be the safest for outdoor use. Thanks!

Flourecent is most efficiant. But there is an incandescent bulb made for rough service that has a coating on it so it will not shatter. They have them either way at Lowes. The problem with any out door light is the possability of rain or mist getting on the bulb and causeing it to shatter. Also, With flourescent lighting, it will take a few min for the bulb to fully light up.

Look for an outdoor rated bulb. I think these are mostly incandescent bulbs. Go to a home improvement store and ask someone in the lighting dept what they suggest.

If push comes to shove, a regular light bulb will work and that is probably what was up there to begin with.

A spiral lightbulb with the lowest wattge is energy saving. I use them all the time for outside lights. They seem to last longer too. And I don't think a low watt yellow bug light uses much energy either.

Yellow bug lights are definately the best ones to have on a patio.
