This to me is an embarassing question, but I really want to know. I called the dr today to see if she could give me a prescription for diarrhea, because immodium is not working and labor is near and I dont want to be in labor with that. She said that she couldnt give me anything , but that when I go into labor she will give me an enema. I am so panicky about it all because with my other labors I had such fast labors that I was always in way too much pain to even get out of bed to be able to use the restroom. Im just worrying alot I guess. But how does all of that work? Had anyone ever had to get one when they went into labor? I have had 3 kids and have never been given one before. No rude answers please.

i went in for an induction and found out that my doctor required enema. i was a little nervous and freaked out at the time since i had never had one before, but after it was all done it really wasn't a big deal. i was super glad i had not eaten much the night before. it wasn't as embarrassing as i thought it would be. they put the water in and then sent me to the bathroom by myself. and it was all over.

Enema During Labor

Questions like this are never embarrassing. I had to have one when I had my son, went for my seven month check-up and had the fasting done that morning. They let go eat after the test. Went in for check-up and there was no heartbeat, had to induce labor to deliver. I was given an enema, considering what I was going through, what's an enema. Yes it will be a bit messy but focus on the fact that you will be delivering a healthy baby. No dome and gloom here it was some time ago.
Congrats on the your new expected, just think of the fun you'll have telling the story to your child and friends one day.

I didn't, but I do know that sometimes diarrhea is a sign of impending labor. Maybe your body is just getting ready to get the baby out?

I would think that having an enema would be more embarrassing than pooping on the table. I pooped during labor, and we all survived. Your doctor has seen worse, I promise.

Forgive me I'm not being rude but if you're already having diarrhea, then why would they want to give you an enema??? Enemas MAKE you poop and clean you out, doesn't sound to me like you NEED that...anyway maybe that is a good sign that labor is imminent for you anyway...most of the time before you go into labor it is said that your body will "cleanse" itself...This may be a part of the natural process for you, so maybe you shouldn't try to stop it...

A lot of women can have a bowel movement during the pushing phase of their labor.
You don't have to have an enema but if you don't want to have a bm during pushing, you can get one if you want.
I am not going to have one and just take my chances. The doctors see that stuff all of the time.

You do not need an enema, and you don't have to get one,if your really worried,go back to the basics, pear juice prunes, grapes, those will get you going, just don't eat very much food when you feel the labor start, and if you do push a turd out its natural just like the birth.

Have you tried eating bananas, rice and drinking LOTS of gatoraide. It usually helps with the diarrhea.

Back in the day, like our parents day, they routinely gave an enema while you were in labor. It flushes you out quickly. I am guessing they would do it right in the bed and just change the pads.

Anyway, try the home remedies for dehydration and upset stomachs.
