A lot of people believe the church should have no say in politics. If you start taxing their money you are opening the door.

Do you think that we would get so much from them in taxes that it would be worth it?

Most churches are in the red. And the Catholic Church seems to be having this problem with being sued by the victims of the sexual assaults by their priests. They aren't going to have any money to really collect anything.

Besides. How can you tax something when it is "non profit". Most churches catagorize themselves as such. All they have to do is donate so much of what they bring in to charity. . . Isn't that what churches do??

Really. Why don't we revoke all of the tax breaks for the companies that make BILLIONS (Oil companies, tobacco companies, large retail giants, world-wide manufacturers, etc.)? I think we stand to collect more from them, don't you?

I don't believe that the churches or the ground they sit on should be taxed. That burden would put some small churches out of existence. However, all other holdings of any church should be taxed!
They are supposed to be in the business of saving souls, not making money to keep the clergy in grand fashion.
