1 kcal = 4.18 x 1000 = 4180 j

1 killocalorie * (1000 calories /1 killocalorie) * (4.184 joules/1calorie) = 4184 joules

you change the kilocalories into regular calories(1000 calories in one kilocalorie), then change the regular calories into joules(4.184 joules in one calorie)

so...

1 kilocalorie = 4184 joules
