Yes i remember it, was the robots name Steve? and the song.

I wish i was a spaceman the fastest guy alive
I'd fly you round the universe
In Fireball XL5
Way out in space together
we're condors of the skies
My heart would be a fireball
A fireball
And you would be my Venus of the skies.

How sad is that remembering the words, still it was cutting edge at the time.

As I recall, Fireball XL5 launched along a steel lattice runway with a sharp upturn at the end of it. What disturbs me most is the fact that there was never any mention of Fireballs XL1 to 4, they obviously ended up, in the testing stage as, errr, fireballs....

Yes. Colonel Steve Zodiac was the pilot, Robert the Robot was the co-pilot, Venus was the medical officer, Matthew Matic was the navigator.

The same producer also did other science fiction adventure shows with marionettes: Supercar, Thunderbirds, Stingray, and Captain Scarlet.

Yes, I remember watching that "puppet on a string" type cartoon back in the '60's.

But, I only watched it when there was nothing else on.
