think about Americans? I woulld like to know what the average person in other countries (Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Denmark, Brazil, China, etc) think of Americans.

By America I meant the United States of America. As far as I know there is no other country that is called "America". There are many countries which are commonly known by only part of their name such as:
China - People's Republic of China
Brazil - Federative Republic of Brazil
Germany - Federal Republic of Germany
Australia - Commonwealth of Australia

So, if I am ignorant for calling the USA America then I guess there are alot of other ignorant people out there calling these other countries China, Australia, etc.

There is no reason to be rude or for anyone to get mad at anyone else's answer. I want honest answers. If someone wants to act like a jerk so be it. I simply was wondering how people view the average American traveler.

This is a good question.

I am American, but have been living in a Muslim country (Tunisia) for 5+ years.

We get many American tourists here, and no one has a problem with them, they treat them respectfully, kindly and fair. In fact, in the years that I've lived here I have met many American tourists and other Americans who are married to Tunisians.

The resounding conclusion though seems to be that the people here in Tunisia do not have a problem with American people, but rather with the government. They watch documentaries like Loose Change, Farenheit 9/11, and others on the history of the US, her politics, and her presidents. They believe that America has a "black" history. And they are angry by what they see in the news about how Mr. President Bush has conducted the war, and how most of his generals and staff, have stepped down due to false information or because they disagree with the President, and now even soldiers are doing it too.

They think that America used to be the greatest nation of them all, but now she is poking her nose into everyone eles business instead of helping her own people, and her time as leader will come to an end within the next 50-100 years unless changes are made.

**These are not necessarily my views, although I do agree with certain points. I am just restating what the majority of people I have talked to say.**

I know your question was 9 years ago, but it somehow appeared to me and i felt like answering.
I'm brazilian and I can say people in my country mostly like you Americans- actually, they venerate EVERYTHING about your country, and sometimes it's really annoying.
Here it's like this: brazilian songs suck, but every USA noise they hear on the radion is an anthem. Brazilian people are ugly, but USA people are so hot and pretty. Stuff like this. If a brazilian girl wears short clothes, they're whores, but if it's an white and blonde american girl, they give her all the respect. That's what I can see from young people in my country: they think everything here is a piece o ****, and they think your contry is the Paradise. No one cares if you visited Russia, Tailand, India or Japan in your vacation, but if you tell them you went to Disney or NY they go like "woooooow, that's fancy!!!!".
Some brazilians are like some of you american, you know? Thinking that the world resumes to USA. They don't even get angry when people call you "America", considering that there are LOTS of other american countries. So, if you plan to visit Brazil some day, you can expect to be treated like a queen.
