So Today I went to my first prenatal Doctors Visit and the dr. didn't pick up the baby's heartbeat I'm 10 weeks, How normal is this? She measured the height of my uterus and it measured out exactly right on time so that means the baby is still growing and everything right? I'm so afraid of a missed miscarriage or something like that

It is very common not to be able to get the heart beat up until about 15 weeks. Do not worry!! I have 3 kids and it was atleast 12 weeks before we could hear it.

That is normal. Usually around 12 weeks is the best to hear the heartbeat with the doppler. 10 is a bit early. I did hear my 3rd sons heartbeat at 10 weeks, but they others I couldnt hear until 12 weeks. Dont worry about it as long as your uterus is measuring correctly.

THis is extremely normal. Don't get upset.
It is normal not to be able to dopple the baby's heartbeat before 12-13 weeks. The uterus doesn't "lift" up above the pelvis until then. Also at 10 weeks your baby is only about 1 1/2 inches long, but at 12 weeks the little critter is about 3 inches long. You will likely hear it at your next visit.

I saw the heartbeat at 10 weeks but they could not find. when they used the doppler. What did the dr say about it? Was he/she concerned?? I was til I saw it on the u/s. I finally got to hear the heartbeat at 14 weeks. If the dr wasn't concerned then don't stress...I know easier said than done. Really don't worry if the dr isn't. Sometimes the baby can be hiding and facing your back. Good luck and keep us posted!!

Don't worry. The doctor checked mine first at twelve weeks, then again at 14 weeks. She still didn't hear it so she sent me for an ultrasound which was better than just hearing the heartbeat anyway. But even the ultrasound nurse had a hard time finding the heartbeat. I just had a little wiggle worm. But she is fine so don't worry

My mother's OB couldn't find my heartbeat most of the time either. Heck, apparently I wiggled WAAAAAAY more than he expected, and I got missed on the ultrasound a couple of times. Don't worry too much -- 10 weeks is only 8 weeks developmentally(development lags about 2 weeks behind since pregnancy is measured from the last menstrual period), so the embryo is still VERY VERY tiny.

Normally they can't get the heartbeat till after 12 weeks. They only way before then if they do an Ultra sound and use the thing they stick in ya!! Don't stress out or that can cause a miscarriage. Good luck!!

This is completely on track-most doctors don't even try to catch the heartbeat until you are 12 weeks along.
Even after 12 weeks, it can be hard to track down the baby and get a really good solid beat to hear.

I didn't get to hear his heartbeat till I was 12 weeks. Dont worry everything is fine. The baby might just be towards your back, or being stubborn, if there was anything wrong the doctor would have let you know. Dont worry everything is ok and CONGRATS

Did he just use the doppler thing on your belly if that was the case it's perfectly normal not to hear it that early I heard mine about 12 weeks. Usually when they don't hear it they send you to get an ultrasound to make sure everything is okay and to give you a more persise due date....I don't know why you doc didn't do this? I'm sure everything is okay I really think they should have done the ultrasound even if just for your peace of mind.

Hi sweetie.

I know you must be stressed, but please remember this: sometimes heart rates are not picked up until after the12th week. Another possiblility is that your baby is younger than the doctor originally calculated (happened to me with my first).

If your measurements are fine, and you've had no spotting...and if your OB is not concerned, just try to take a deep breath and relax (easier said than done!). I'm sure everything will turn out just fine for you...

Keep your head up!
