What is the name of this sci-fi show that aired on either on NBC, ABC, or CBS in the 90's?

Question

In the series there were aliens and they tested the DNA which determined what level of alien they were. I do remember most vividly the testing in a lab, and I am quite sure that it was on earth. Depending on the level I think that was how closely human they were and how dangerous, the main characters tested the DNA and either killed the alien or injected them with something ( this I can't remember that well). I have searched but have so far come up empty-- if I remember correctly I think that it got cancelled before it ran that long.

This show was on in about the mid 90's, the main characters did lab work to determine what level of alien they were, which meant how close to human they were. It maybe went to level 9 being the farthest from human that you can get. I have checked out V, Alien Nation, War of the Worlds (tv series), and Threshold. For sure I know that it is not threshold and the others most likely not. I don't think this show was on the air long enough to complete it to second season, but maybe it was. It sounds like one of two shows only one ran to the 1990's.
There's:
War of the Worlds (the series). Ran from 1988-1990 in syndication. It involved a team of scientists who had to track down aliens that hopped into people's bodies by lab work.
or
Threshold. Came on CBS but it was in the 2000's. It also involved the scientists doing lab work to see if someone was infected with alien DNA.

it could be - v. it was a mini series first. the regular series kind of sucked. if you get the chance, watch the original mini series. it's much better.
