My bf and I have been removing tiles with a chisel and hammer (ok, well >I< have been removing tiles while he watches, basically) and the chisel he got from his dad is like 1/2 inch wide, maybe an inch at most. I think it would be better to use a wider chisel. Yay or nay?

Depends on the size of the tiles. But 2 is better than 1. (Say wasn't that a song?)

YES a wide chisel bit on a hammer-drill and the job should take no time at all. I suggest a chisel bit as wide as the tile itself (one tile) but no wider. see about renting the bit & hammer drill from a tool rental store.

Yes a little bigger and sturdy. A hammer helps when you tap the end of it. Like prying off the tile.

Wider is better. I've been down that road.
