Oh, this is a huge problem for me! I'm still struggling with it.
Well, to help with the problem right now, get a kitchen timer or set your alarm clock for 15 minutes from now, and just get started on one project. Promise yourself a "reward" after doing just 15 minutes -- getting a snack, 5 minutes on the computer, taking a walk or whatever. If you aren't done in 15 minutes, reward yourself, then go back for another 15 minutes.
There are a lot of good books out there that explain procrastination and how to overcome it -- but don't look at them while you have a project due!!! That would be another form of procrastination.
In many ways, procrastination is like stage fright. You are scared to get started, because you don't know if it will turn out OK, or if it will mean you get more work thrown your way or whatever. But, if you just get started, the fear goes away.
Believe me, it's so much nicer to get it done and over with, rather than having it hang over your head. Just sit down at your desk, and say, "OK, I'm going to do it now!"

I teach a class on how to go to college that is aimed at people with your issue.
I believe that most students procrastinate because they focus entirely on the big goal instead of breaking down a project into a series of smaller tasks. Writing a paper sounds overwhelming. Try setting a deadline for choosing a topic. Then maybe set another deadline to find five sources. Set a third deadline for having an outline done and maybe a fourth deadline for writing a first draft. What you are doing is breaking a big project into a series of smaller tasks that seem more manageable and doable.
You might also need some personal help. Talk to a tutor who can show you in-person how to create a schedule and to chunk projects into smaller more tangible tasks that will eventually help you to complete the entire assignment.
While it seems crazy, lots of students are afraid that asking for help will make them look stupid. What is dumb is not asking for help. We all need help sometimes. Make an appointment tomorrow and go and see someone at your school who can help you to develop strategies.

Find an area to do your work without any distractions and only focus on the task ahead. Don't tell yourself it will only take 15 minutes because if it was, why didn't you do it yet if it only takes 15 minutes!?
You are most likely going to start the homework if you have it out in front of you, so...get off the computer and get to work!

I often end up doing big projects the night before they are due also, and that means my work isnt as good as i know it could be. But one of my teachers gave us a good tip. She said the day it gets assigned, see how long it will take, and based on that, just do a bit a day so that you dont feel overloaded, but it will get done by the time its due, and it will be good quality! hope this helps!

You are not the only one with this type of "problem". To help yourself with confronting this issue, try to look at as getting it over with so you can focus on things that you ARE interested in. The best way to deal with procrastination is to confront it. The sooner you finish your work, the quicker you no longer have it as a problem.
I hope this helps. Best wishes...
