uh, duh, it started hundreds of years ago...read a history book.
And please do not limit yourself to American books about America...read what other nations have to say about America in their history books too.

Its the product of what they call an "ethnocentric" education. Meaning that in US public schools, all the focus is placed on the United States and very little on the outside world. For example, when I was in school, I had a US History class every year. I only had one African/South American class (for one semester) in 10th grade, and we learned virtually nothing except for the geography of said continents.
Its not anyones fault in particular, except the textbook publishers, who try to please every school board across the nation. The way schools work in the US, theres a locally elected school board that decides which textbooks to use and what curriculum the teachers have to follow. If they decide against any education about other cultures, theres nothing anyone can do about it. The publishers who sell their textbooks to schools basically have to please the school boards or else their textbooks dont get used and they make no money.
So the end result is a population only concerned with the USA and overall rather ignorant of and unconcerned with other cultures worldwide.
For a much longer and better explanation, I recommend the book "Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong" by James Loewen. It explains alot about the educational system (particularly as far as American History is concerned) and whats wrong with it.
Do keep in mind though, that most Americans are wonderful people with good hearts, its just that because they have an awful lack of education that they are easily manipulated by the corporations and the media.
Hope that helps you understand a bit better.

because we live on a continent basically by ourselves, without the need to interact with people from other cultures.
I don't think THAT is Bush's fault really. I DO fault him for turning the rest of the world against us right after the whole world was basically with us after the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

As opposed to some other nation that is open to foreign ideals and belief systems, but is keeping remarkably quiet about it, eh?
Yes America is full of c'unts - but so is everywhere else.
And no, I'm not a yank.

I think you are confusing America (actually the United States) with its leaders.
Also you are really making a statement, no a question.
Americans actually, as a people open their hearts and wallets bigger than most other countries. We help people who don't even like us. Why? It is the right thing to do, and by and large that is what this nation does.

The people of the U.S.A like´s to pride themselves of giving the most, and they do Because there are 300 million of them. But they do not give the most to developing country´s per person living in the country. You can find information about this someware in the Human development index... just Google it yourself.

I have never seen anyone as kind and generous as the American people. Have you? What country in history has given as much as Americans? What country has sent more soldiers to fight and die to save others?
You just come off sounding very petty and envious. Envy is a horrible thing. It will eat you up if you don't get victory over it.

hm-mm, only thinking of ourselves and its all Americans? from what i can tell right now is that if we were only thinking about ourselves than Saddam would still be starving, killing, and raping the people under him.
if we were only thinking of ourselves than we would stay in our country and never offer food, help, money, or even concern to other countries.
but that is your opinion that is what we are doing.

Once again a generalization. We are not all idiots. But we do suffer from them.
