Very! Same as you, I was on a tight leash. Seems like now a days it's alot looser but look at how the world has changed from it! It's definitely not for the better! We need to get back to the tighter leashes!

I don't know if 'control' is a good word for parenting 'positives'... better that parents stay involved in their kids' lives... it is important to know where your kids are, who they are hanging out with, get to know the parents of those kids, volunteer at school and form relationships with people who work with your kids... kids arent opposed to rules as long as there is respect and you share your reasoning for the rules you expect them to follow. Also, we keep an 'open door' policy at our house and we have teens coming and going to our house all the time... and we are always around when there are kids here, to 'chaperone' if you will, so parents know that their kids are in a safe place.
Having 2 now grown kids and one last one in high school, we have been 'thru' this all a number of times.. new waves of kids... but I have kids who continue to come over even now when my kids are gone to work or college or whatever.... they are an extended part of the family.
Many kids these days tho, come from homes where their parents were 'controlled' and they don't hold their kids responsible for anything.. let them run wild... and we have seen many who make horrible decisions way too early in their lives... and the consequences are tough... no one was there to walk them thru those decisions with any wisdom....
staying in tune with kids*respecting them and expecting respect back*and keep talking with them.... that is key to a relationship with kids

I think it is crucial but that is a minority response. Most people just let their children raise themselves while they work and have late nights with their friends. Children are thought by many to be one of life's accessories and are thus left to their own devices. Which is why things are so much harder for parents who actually care and take action in their child's life.

It is very important, more important than a lot of people think, these days. They depend on people who work in daycares or babysitters to look after there kids, and they can only do so much. i worked in a daycare and believe me, that was a nightmare to remember, for a very long time to come.

Extremely important.. if you aren't given any guide lines by parents or guardians like, protection, direction, love.. then you are left learning the hard way. If you are given too much rope you can hang yourself so to speak. I protect my girls with a vengeance.. they are my world.

It's very important. Too many parents today try to be their child's friend instead of a parent.

I think it is very critical-didn't have Internet pedophiles when I was young. But whether or not it is enforced is a different story.
