The water in the tank continues to run after flushing...what's the problem?

Sounds like the screws on the counter weight need to be tightened/loosened. These are the screws attached to the arm that holds the ball. Experiment with tightening/loosening and see if that helps. I've had to do that a couple of times on toilets and it always works.

The water entering the tank is somehow exiting it again. There are 3 ways it can do that.

1) look at the overflow pipe, frequently it stands up in the middle of the tank and has an open top. If the water level is over the lip of this pipe, adjust the arm with the ball on the end so that the ball is lower in the water. Next time you flush, the ball will float sooner and cut off the water b 4 it gets to the top of the pipe.

2) there is a flapper at the bottom of the tank, its the bit that lifts up when you flush. It is catching on something or is off center or is old or has a stone under it. Put your hand down in the tank and move the flapper around a bit. it may solve the issue immediately or show you where the issue is.

3) the chain down to the flapper can get a kink in it that stops the flapper going all the way down. Should be obvious just looking at it.

The best bet is to replace the the fill valve. It is the thing that sticks up in the tank and has the arm with a ball or float on the end of it. It is not hard to do but depending on the level of your mechanical aptitude it may be best to have someone do it that has had experience with this procedure do it. You can try bending the metal arm that has the float on it DOWN slightly into the water. Bend it with both hand in the middle only a little at a time until the water stops running. Other than that have it replaced. GOOD LUCK

A couple of things. First pull the top off and lift up on the float, if this stops the water, then adjust the float lower to stop the water. When the float is out of adjustment, you should see water running down the overflow tube.

The second thing is if the flapper valve is hung up or just not sealing. Clear any obstructions and see if it seals.

The best ting to do is go to a home improvement store and buy a replacement kit and replace the water control valve and the drain assembly.

Jiggle the handle, usually stops it. The usual problem is, something is stopping the "flapper" from closing completely. Remove the lid, flush and observe. Is maybe the chain too long (getting caught underneath flapper) and not allowing the flapper to completely close. That is about the only thing that could get in the way. If that is not the case, you may need a new "outfit", cheap. The seal around flapper is worn out and not allowing complete closure.

If bending the float arm doesn't stop it from running then there is a rubber flap on the bottom of the tank that may be worn out. Open the tank lid and look to see if the flap is seating in the drain hole. If it isn't, replacements are available at WalMart, and it is a simple thing to change. Good luck.

Pull the lid off the returned of the toliet. there will be a rubber ball on the opening, sparkling the backside off to make optimistic it instruments. If it won't artwork, try bending the glide ball arm to make it glide faster. i'm assuming you bought an old crapper and there continues to be that adjustment. If no longer, call a plumber.

Take the top lid off the toilet, bend the rod that attaches to your float a little. this will stop the flow of water. Bend it toward the water in the tank!
