Stars are "born" in a nebula such as the Crab nebula. Stars are a part of a galaxy.

galaxys are composed of stars, nebulas, dust, rocks, and gas. all a nebula is is a bunch of gas thats close together, kind of like a cloud. most stars are formed from these nebula then spead out over time. so if a galaxy is made up of all of these things then nebulas are the part that generate stars!!! hope this helps!!!
