I live in CA in an apartment and I turned in my notice to vatate today. The day I turn in my keys will be March 31st. My apartment manager told me that I will still be responsible for the next 30days. That means that I am going to be all moved out March 31st and I have to pay rent till April 10th. Is there any way to get out of paying for the 10 days that I wont be living there, or am I just out of luck?? Is there a web site where I can find out more about lanlord/tenant laws??

Yes I am month to month, and rent is due on the 1st. I have paid rent up until the 31st. They want me to pay for the days in April even though I wont be living there.

There are several. It also depends on whether you have a specific-term lease, or are renting month-to-month.

Assuming month to month, then your landlord is correct. He can require you to pay the full 30 days, including through April 10th.

There are many sites that cover landlord tenant law. Just go to your favorite search engine and type in "landlord tenant law California".

A tenant must give a written 30 day notice or they lose the security deposit and are responsible for the rent according to lease. Is the rent dur on the 10th?

If you gave a deposit they will take it out of your deposit and give you the rest. I should say if you're lucky they'll give you the rest. They'll do whatever suits them unless you stand up for yourself. They usually have much worse things to worry about than someone who gives 3 weeks notice instead of 4. They're just being greedy and picky. Don't pay for rent for days you won't be there. Chances are they would not do the same for you, i.e. you won't get your deposit back unless you go after it.

By law, and your contract, you stated you would give 30 days written notice. If you moved out before the 30 days, you still responsible for the remainder time. No way out of this one.

they are ignorant or liars. Landlords regularly are required to offer 30 days be conscious for replace in words (60 days in CA if there longer than a million 3 hundred and sixty 5 days), although on your case they probably are not seen tenants. they are probably borders using fact it is your abode, you lease a room to them, and you reside there to boot. you have kinfolk dynamics to handle, yet whilst they weren't kinfolk the reaction may well be to tell them they have 30 days to circulate rooms or the contract for them to stay there is terminated. No communicate may well be mandatory.
