the concentration of alkalide salts in sea water and saline-like solutions are not nearly enough to cross the threshold of pain experienced when solid salt is applied to the eyes. This is due to the fact that the pain experience is the shriveling of the cells in the eyes due to a reversed osmotic potential, and the concentration of a solid salt, such as NaCl would cause rapid and almost complete dehydration of most of the cells on the surface of the eyes.

Direct salt input is hardly diluted as salt crystals are quite potent as salt comes. In the ocean or on your skin, it is diluted.
Keep in mind, its like battery acid. In your battery, it has been diluted with water. In its raw form it is very potent and can burn right through your skin.
This is not the best example, because both would cause extremely bad effects on your body, so don't try comparing them - how does that saying go, I'm a trained professional, don't try this at home! lol

i'm exceedingly particular that generally salt water swimming pools are easily a lot less annoying on your eyes than chlorine. do not problem that's no longer like the sea or some thing, that's only a touch salty. The chemical compounds in chlorine that are those that damage your eyes are not in salt water swimming pools. And sure it does clean the pool nicely :)

Yes, putting salt in your eyes would hurt because of the sulfuric acid mixing with the delicate fluid in your eyes causes a chemical reaction and causes the eyes to burn. Salt is just like the chlorine in pool water, except it burns a little more.

It could vary about the amount of salt is exposed to your eyes, and sometimes when you start to cry your eyes do start to sting.

i think it would hurt. Salt water kills my eyes, maybe your eyes aren't sensitive. Tears don't burn because they concentration of salt is not as high. If you were to pour straight salt into your eye, it's not diluted at all, so it would most likely sting like crazy.

A SALINE solution for your contact lenses is essentially a salt solution. The primary irritation from table salt in crystalline form and not in solution would be the crystals themselves. I wouldn't recommend this action, you could damage your lens which isn't too fun.
