Karl Malone

25 and 10 career averages in his 19 year career

to put that into perspective Tim Duncan has only one 25 and 10 season TOTAL and has declined ever since then

Karl Malone. Why? In the old days the power forward or the 4 position was simply referred to as "forward" or "the other forward". When Karl Malone arrived, they had to put the prefix "power" to describe the Mailman's play. We all know that Malone played with a lot of power and even roughness underneath the boards. Even those who didn't actually see him play but who know about basketball could easily tell that he's a power forward by just looking at his size (6'9"-6'10") and magnificent physique. He won two MVP's and was an all-NBA first team selection 11 times. Then there are his stats: second (to Kareem) in most points scored, over 10,000 rebounds, 5,000-plus assists and over 1,000 blocks. With his size and tremendous strength, he dominated the position for decades with a solid inside game and adept low post moves punctuated by accurate fadeaway jumpers. Of course, he anchored the famous pick and roll play with Stockton where he earned most of his points. It's just unfortunate that he didn't win a title, but that should not diminish his greatness.

It is hard to answer depending what you mean on best. Talent wise it would have to be KG. There is nothing that he can't do. He scores rebounds passes and even showed the ability to be able to bring the ball up the floor and initiate an offense like he did with Flip Saunders at time. But I'm going to take your definition of best by who wins the most, because that is all that matters in the world of sports. Then it is absolutely, without a doubt Tim Duncan. There has never been a bigger turn around with a franchise like when the Spurs took Tim Duncan. They went from the modern day Trail Blazers, unique with young talent but lacking chemistry, to a powerhouse dynasty, title contenders every year. Yes he is boring, you don't see him on sport center unless he is on the recieving end of a play but there is no other PF in histroy who wins like big timmy.

Tim Duncan, probably, but Bob Pettit, Karl Malone, and Moses Malone are all close. As for why...Tim Duncan has never been on a bad team, dominated since his rookie year, bee the best player (with all due respect to Robinson) on three championship teams and counting. He has been the best player in basketball except Shaq since Jordan retired. However, you could make the argument that he plays center (despite his claims otherwise).

Karl Malone, I was standing next to him and Dr. Buss after the home opener underneath Staples (the year he and GP came to the Lakers), when doc asked him 'to look after things' (meaning the possible meltdown due to lack of chemistry since the whole lineup was being changed around) to which he replied'dont worrry itll be fine', after all that time playing, he still looked like a greyhound...that he developed an outside shot and made himself a better free throw shooter were definite plusses as well being second all time in total points...he was still in good enough condition to play a few more productive years...few guys ever 'could go after it' for as long and hard as he did...

KG.. he is getting paid the most out of all the power forwards and he does so much so well on both sides of the court... he would flourish and dominate in any era...
