No fairies, but lots of Dragons. Dragonflight, dragonquest, and The White Dragon by Anne McCaffrey. These are the first three books(there are alot more). Also any of C.S. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia would work. The Chronicles of Amber is also a good set(according to my brother).

Orson Scott Card's Magic Street is an interesting modern fantasy that pulls the fairies and the elements of magic from Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream. It may be a bit adult, but a fifteen year old should cope with the themes just fine. It's also quite witty and clever and highly original.

Jonathon Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clark is another book you might be interested in. It's set in Britain during the time of the war with Napoleon and features both the last two wizards in Britain and more than a couple trickster fairies. Funny and engaging from first page to last. It's a long book, but also a very worthy read.

The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher are good. A bit adult, but not nasty. They are VERY funny, especially the latest books. They get better and better as they go and are quick reads. They are entertaining too. There is a whole book about the Fairy world.

Eragon is high in elves, low on Fairies and (I think) actually pretty boring. For non-fairy reading, Harry Potter would be better than Eragon.

I don't read a lot of children's fantasy. I hear that Beyond the Mist by Fergus Mcghee is really good. Don't know about Fairy content though.

Fairies actually don't seem to be horribly popular in fantasy, that I can think of. Mercedes Lackey's Elemental Masters series has a lot of elemental spirits, though - including water sprites and air sprites. They are technically at an adult level, but the content isn't too mature (they are actually retellings of fairy tales).

Charles DeLint has several urban fantasy novels, and many of them have fairies in them. They don't tend to be major roles, though.
