Just as interesting, I think, are the derivations of the words:

Devil and evil, for example, come from ENTIRELY different sources. Devil comes from the Greek 'diablos' which means 'slanderer'. Evil, on the other hand, comes originally from Old German 'ubil' which is a reference to going beyond the law. It is pretty much a coincidence that they are spelled so similarly in modern English.

God and good, however, is no coincidence. Though the very earliest origins of the term 'god' aren't precisely known, it crosses that of 'good' in old Gothic German where gheu eventually became the modern 'gut' (pronounced goot) along one path and 'Gott' along another. Gheu seems to have meant 'to invoke or sacrifice to', so it seems reasonable that it might come to be both the entity sacrificed to and a description of the ethical value of sacrificing.

So at least in the latter case, you are not crazy at all!

What's your point?

If I add 6 (number of words typed before this point) and divide it by two, I get two. Then If I divide it by three, I get three.Oh my god, It's the evil number 23...

Come on, if you start fooling around with things you can make anything seem plausible.

I've never noticed that but it is a good thing to point out. Think about it. God is the all-knowing and forgiving being. He brings good to the people that stands by him. And Lucifer is supposed to be the ultimate evil, that that's why God cast him out of Heaven. Thats pretty neat that you noticed that

Such observations though fun are meaningless!

How about French bon - good, take o out and you get bn
and mauvais evil and add your d and you get dmauvais - meaningless things.

Danish god good, take out o and you have gd.
ond - evil, +d = dond. meaningless.

We could go on with German, Japanese, Russian, and you would see that your observation though fun to play with, in all seriousness has no use.

yeah i remember reading that in a religious pamphlet about 8 - 10 years ago, was one of the moments where i truly understood how crazy religions can make people.

i think the essential point to focus on here is this - "so what?"
