From this time out yes I suggest bringing the bag every where you go, your water could break while you are in the store and you want to be able to have it with you, as long as there is nothing of extreme value just put it in the trunk and leave it there until you are using it.
I would say though even at 5 cm if you are not contracting routinely he would not keep you. They would do that only if there is a problem. Sorry.

I think you need to be having contractions or have broke your water for them to keep you. I think to be 3 cm dialated is normal before you go into labour . I am pretty sure I was 2 or 3 about a month before I was due. BUT I would think 5 is a different story! I'm not a doctor though. Put your bag in the car, it couldn't hurt to have it there anyway.
Good Luck!

I was dilated 4 for 2 weeks. Unless you are in actual labor, they wont keep you. BUT you never know if they may say you can go to the hospital and be induced if you were to perhaps be already 5 cm dilated and not in labor. Bring your bags to be safe.

I was dialated to 2 for a week and a half, and I wanted to go into labor so bad. My Dr. said he wouldnt admit me until I was dialated to 3. He said I could try going for a walk, taking hot showers and letting the water hit my chest for a couple of mins. then my back for a couple of mins. Also intercourse may help. Good luck. And if this is your first, labor really isnt that bad if you have an epidural:)

I would take a bag....I was kept at 3 they broke my water and a few hours later my daughter was here. It depends on the doc though most won't keep you until your contracting on a regular basis....
Good Luck and Congrats!!!

Have you bag with you, just in case.
But, due dates are NOT an exact science.
Good luck.
