Oh my gosh...wow...I don't think you'll be wasting anyone's time. I have been put on antidepressants for the same thing, I was having anxiety attacks and then I would go into a deep depression. I have gone through 3 different types of meds before I found one that works for me. All meds are not the same, so I'm sure they'll find something for you.

People often have a reason for anxiety which could be helped by someone listening to them. You may find some useful help by trying re-evaluation counselling.
Also some dynamic music can help. (Feeling good 'Nina Simone') played fairly loud and dancing while listening to it.
Believe in yourself you are perfect, and open to sharing your worries so you're halfway there. You deserve the mental space peace brings, so take as much as you need. There are some good affirmations worth trying. Louise Hay has a good CD available from Amazon.I've just ordered for myself.
Best wishes

I started having panic attacks in my early 20's. I thought I was dying, literally. I would easily get over stimulated, which would cause an attack. I also started to have acid reflux. I thought I was having a heart attack. I spent a lot of time in the er. Each time, they told me I was ok. Finally, a dr. put me on Zoloft. It was like night and day. I take Prozac now and have for over 10 years. If I go off of it, I slowly start to feel the paranoia come back and begin to think things are wrong with me (hypochondria). Then, I begin to feel overwhelmed and begin to have panic attacks. My life is normal with just a low dosage of Prozac. Chemical imbalance is very prevelent in my family. If it is not in yours, then you maybe just need some counseling. You are so young, you haven't learned that you have to stick up for yourself. You have a right to be treated and taken seriously. Don't apologize for following up on a concern of yours. Besides, how bad can it be. It's not surgery or anything, they are just going to talk to you.
