Emo is a subgenre of hardcore punk music.

Look, emos are just people. Just because we wear a lot of black and act all depressed means we cut ourselvelves. WE HAVE A REASON TO CUT! Someone died, bf/gf cheated, these are all reasons. People think I'm emo (that's true), but they think I have no friends and no life. Some dude asked if I had a Myspace (this was b4 I got mine) and I said,"no" He automatically said,"Dude, you are emo" SO LEAVE US ALONE! WE ARE PEOPLE TOO!!!!!!!

Emo is short for emotional.
It can be confused with Goth, which is all black clothes eyeliner...stuff like that.
Emo is just an expressive style
Emo people can sometimes be depressed but they are generally quiet introverts.
To sum up emo, would just be reflective quite sometimes depressed sort of people.
They don't love death or are not Satan worshipers like some would categorize as Goth.
