Getting ready to grow a backyard vegetable garden and I want it to be free of any chemicals.

This may sound nuts, but planting marigolds near your tomatoes keeps most bugs away from them.. There's lots of other flowers that detract bugs from vegtables, but I can't think of them at the moment. But your local nursery should be able to tell you.

Hi there. Buy a sprayer. Mix 1 gallon white vinegar,1 cup of salt and 2 tablespoons of dish washing liquid. Apply this to the weeds. The weeds will die but it may take 3 applications. Saturate them well. Plant a week later. Work in your garden every day and pull weeds as they come. I pour house vinegar directly on the weeds but I wouldn't get any near flowers or veggies. It really worked for me:) You can get nematode's from a garden catalog or store. They take care of the bugs. They aren't really toads but they are a living microscopic sort of thing ..they come in a packet and you mix with water. Of course check the directions. Also the real ladybugs eat other bugs . The red ones not the tan or rustybroyn ones. Those you can also get at a garden center or by mail believe it or not:)

Make sure you i.d. any bug before you kill it. Your garden has plenty of beneficial insects and you'll do a lot of harm by killing them. Organic gardens are famous for their bio-diversity. I control aphids by knocking them off with water, and japanese beetles by hand-picking and dropping them into soapy water. I let all other bugs live.
For weeds, I just pull them. Once a week does it.

Safers Soap kills probably 80% of insects. sticky yellow pads trap the small ones and good old weed pulling gets rid of weeds. Lots of work to be organic.

organic and organic growers do use insecticides, in spite of the undeniable fact that the options they have are constrained. Neem, Pyrethrum, Nicotine, and Rotenone are some that are allowed. As you've said, they don't look as sensible because the pest controls used by ability of usual growers.

well ,if you are afraid of chemicals, do it the old way, get down on your hands and knees, and pull the weeds out, and step on the bugs
