we have three huge gumball trees or i have heard them referred to as sweet gumball anyway is there anyway to make these darn thing stop producing the dreaded spikey guballs that drop from them?

No, they're the seed pods. The tree is just doing what it's meant to do, which is to spread it's DNA around the planet.

You might be able to suspend a net underneath the big branches, to catch the gumballs, so that you don't step on them.

I had the same problems with my sweetgum trees, 14 of them, the balls and leaves were so bad and tall i had to hire a tree cutter to remove them. The dry leaves were a fire hazzard. Good luck

Short of cutting them down, I have no idea how to stop them....

Nope, if you can't live with them, you'll have to cut them down.

if you want them fruitless, spray them each year, ask your nursery
